Jetsam

Jetsam

aka

Jettina, VelociJet

Jetsam was pulled out of the Fresno river in 1992, rescued from four children who were trying to drown her. She was a scrawny, starved, abused little puppy who desperately wanted love. We only planned to keep her until she was healthy enough to adopt out, as we already had Carmen and Idgie. Needless to say, by the time she had recovered, we were in love with her.

Jetsam grew to be a big, gorgeous dog with lush, curly black fur. She was gentle to the core. Although her horrible start in life made her shy and cautious, there wasn't a speck of meanness in her. In fact, she was the kindest and most empathetic dog I've ever met. If you were sick or sad, Jet would know immediately, and be there by your side, gazing at you with her sweet brown eyes. She'd lean against you, sending quiet waves of love until you felt better.

Jet never fully trusted kids, but she always loved Fenris and Orion. Always reserved, she would give them tiny kisses and follow them around, keeping them out of trouble.

Sadly, Idgie began to grow aggressive toward Jet, even attacking her several times. Jet eventually moved in with my mom Fran, where she was greatly loved and spoiled. Of course, we visited her all the time. Jet had a wonderful time gardening with Fran, guarding her chickens, and keeping the world safe from grain-plundering rats.

We lost Jet in September 2006. If any dog ever became a guardian angel, it was Jetsam. It was her nature to love and protect. Sometimes I'm sure I can feel her sweet eyes watching me.
